you to believe that his version of the facts are correct and that he’s just trying to ‘get it right’, the inferences that his readers may draw are unfair, biased, and contrary to the thorough investigation conducted by the FBI. When you read the piece, I hope that you kept in mind the age old strategy for the totally righteous to summarily dismiss and to discredit an individual whose original crime was dishonesty. Shame on you Henry, that’s such an easy way out.

Let’s do away with the most ridiculous element first. Henry tried to beef up his story by interviewing my book’s ex-publisher, Shawna Vercher. Did you know that the one question Ms. Vercher has YET to answer, even when recently posed by the U.S. Attorney in New York is, WHERE IS THE MONEY owed to me from my book? I have not seen one thin dime. And while it’s getting completely ho-hum, Ms. Vercher continues to deflect the attention away from her obligation to pay me, as well as her multiple and continued violations of our contract (and the law) and instead spends her time figuring out how to spin stories out of thin air about my credibility, honesty and integrity and planting ‘new’ ideas and theories about me as a person. We all know I gambled on games and as a result, spent a considerable amount of time in prison. I am rebuilding my life from the ground up and Ms. Vercher’s habits of going for the jugular, feeding off of my past weaknesses and being a cyber-bully, are getting very, very tiresome. All I can really be accused of, where Ms. Vercher is concerned, is cancelling my contract with her due to her failure to comply with its’ terms and her failure to pay me my royalties. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!

Getting to the meat of Henry’s opinion piece, I want to shed light on certain points he tried to make. First, let’s talk about game-fixing. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: the FBI found that I told the truth. Part of their consideration in arriving at that fact, and why wouldn’t it be, was evaluating the idea of fixing games. Further, the NBA looked very closely at this same idea – in fact, they spent $9930.02, money I am now required to pay back in restitution, to investigate the suggestion of game fixing. They found no evidence. I honestly believe that if the NBA HAD found any evidence that I ‘fixed’ games, they would have let me and everyone else know by now. Let it rest, Henry.

Polygraph tests, or more commonly, the lie detector, while controversial in its courtroom application, is a popular method to ferret out the lies that people tell. I offered to submit to this test for Todd Gallagher of ESPN, but it was cancelled by Todd’s bosses. I again agreed to submit, if someone would also conduct the same test on Stern, Bavetta, Crawford, and Ed T. Rush, so that I could ask them a few questions. So far, no one has arranged those tests. If the current administration and referees are interested in refuting my theories, and removing any suspicions surrounding their involvement in the NBA’s conspiracy, please let them know that my offer stands.

Speaking of Bavetta, he has been conspicuously absent from these playoff games. Abbott kindly referred to me in his piece as the ‘worst-ever example of a referee.’ By contrast, many hold Bavetta in high regard, for his leadership and years of service as a ref. If that’s the case, why hasn’t he officiated in any of the 2010 NBA Finlas and Conference Finals? Could it be that his tendency to try to bring the underdog back from the ashes in any given game was not how the NBA wanted to end up the season? I like Dick, I learned a lot from him, but I witnessed up-close his influence on the referees and more specifically, the game’s outcome. The NBA was smart to let him start his summer early.

It’s not too terribly curious that other referees have not marched forward in support of me. I have done the dirty work, and paid the ultimate price, so they didn’t have to. Why would anyone, with their own closeted skeletons, corroborate my story? Some of them are satisfied to let me continue to shoulder this burden, while they continue to enjoy the benefits, salary and perks of the greatest job on earth.

Henry, in hopes of lending credibility to his piece, trotted out Haralambos Voulgaris, a known gambling figure. I think this may be a case of the pot calling the kettle black. While I’m sure Mr. Voulgaris is a very smart man, understanding complex numbers and statistical analyses, please realize that the FBI also has access to databases and video and game reels and have done a thorough job at analyzing what I told them versus what they were able to determine from watching all of the games I officiated.

I think you get the idea of what I’m trying to say here. Listen, I’ve rolled around with dogs in my life, and have come up with a few fleas. What has amazed me, and has also thoroughly humbled me, is the surprising number of people who would not only like to see me fall hard again, but who would willingly put out their foot to trip me up in that effort. When Abbott gave me the courtesy ‘head’s up’ about this piece that he wrote, he said, “I just want to get it right.” Well, Henry, I’m here to tell you that not only did you NOT ‘get it right’, you did a woeful job at creating an objective piece, and failed miserably at any attempt at being nice. Every paragraph slammed me, only to be followed up by a footnote of my position. You merely wrote a position piece, a starting point for continued discussion about my conspiracy theory about the NBA. But Henry, like all other sports columns, call it for what it is – your opinion – and leave it at that. I have a lot of respect for your work Henry, but there’s not much ‘true’ about this TrueHoop piece.

The recently deceased basketball great John Wooden once said, “be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” I can’t change my past, and therefore what people think I am based on that. But know this, Henry, Shawna and anyone else, I had 11 months to think about the person I want to be, and for myself and my four girls, I am working on my character from the ground up.

Wow. Big Baby, Nate, Wallace and T Allen did the job last night. That was one of my favorite C's victories of the season. They couldn't hit shots and just straight up gritted it out. They took that victory. Now, on to Sunday night. Please give us an old fashioned blowout so we can relax for one game.

According to the Globe minority owner Jim Pallotta(pictured left laughing at Dennis Leary) confronted Stern after game 3 on Tuesday night and could face a fine from the league. It would be great to get some video footage on this. The officiating has taken center stage which has taken away from what should have been a classic Celtics-Lakers matchup. Tonight will be interesting. Doc planted some seeds yesterday with the media in regards to what the Lakers have been getting away with...

“All three games we’ve had one of our quote-unquote Big Three not able to play (because of foul trouble). It’s a very difficult game to call, but what we all want is consistency.

“As far as the off-the-ball action, you are not allowed to hold. You’re not allowed to bump and you’re not allowed to impede progress. I read that this morning (in the rulebook) and I’m positive of it. So, you know, when that happens, then that has to be called.”

Look for fines coming down on both Rivers and Pallota before the day is out.

Okay so the C's couldn't close the door on the Magic. They played their best game of the series and the C's played their worst game and still almost won. They will have to head back down to Disney World to close them out. Here's some observations from the game...

-Dwight Howard has got away with murder this series. He throws elbows and rakes people across the face...if Perk or Wallace did what he did they would get banned from the playoffs!
-Listening to that crew(Van Gundy, Breen and Jackson) do the game is torture. Pure torture. I can't take it! They are the worst. I want you to call the game not do a talk show during the game. I can't stand listening to them.
-The Pierce isolation play that they seemed to run the last 6-7 minutes in the game and in OT is painful. It's circa 2003-2005 when the C's had no supporting cast and would run that play at the end of every game. We have too many weapons now to revert to that! Doc is the man and he's achieved non questioning status but I'm not sure why they kept running that...
-Ray Allen always amazes me...lost in this game will be his great 3 balls that gave them a chance to win in the end. He should have taken the last shot in regulation.
-Finally that Perk moving pick foul that they called is ridiculous! It happens on EVERY pick in the NBA but for some reason they call it on Perk at least two times a game.

The Orlando Tragic...

Celts took full command of the series against Orlando. It was very enjoyable watching Vince Carter choke on those free throws at the end of last game. The officiating in the last eight minutes of that game was all pro-Magic...I was happy for the C's to have hung on. They got only one foul called for them(the charge on Reddick) in the last six to eight minutes. You could feel the officials trying to keep this one close. If Carter doesn't choke on those free throws...I'm not sure the Celts hang on. Are they going to call Perkins for a foul every time he sets a screen??? What's different from his screens versus 80% of the screens set in the NBA??? I don't get it. Furthermore, if Perkins did what Howard did to Pierce he would have been banned from the playoffs!!! Great victory vs the officials/Magic. I liked Pierce calling on the fans for the next two home games...

Celts will need to bring the hammer down next game(which I think they will) to officially end this series. I like the C's moxie right now...

They handle the mundane signings and trade talks, etc. But PFT takes it several steps further when discussing contract negotiations, labor agreements and most importantly, legal matters. And that's where PFT sets themselves apart, by handling the nuances of the NFL and how the small intricacies really matter.

The most recent evidence of proof with this is on display with two matters -- Brian Cushing's recent suspension, and the New Orleans Saints Vicodin scandal, which is the purpose of this piece.

If you haven't been paying attention to the matter -- here's the synopsis of the Saints controversy:

* The Saints head of security was suing the team and was going to expose drug abuse/theft with 2 high level figures in the organization -- those two high level figures were Assistant head coach - Joe Vitt, and Head Coach Sean Payton.

* The Saints General Manager, Mickey Loomis, attempted to cover up the matter to avoid exposing Vitt and Payton as the guilty parties

* The head of security for the Saints decided to withdraw the lawsuit and let it be settled in arbitration -- in other words -- he'll get some payment for his grievances

With the arbitration, it's all going away -- this little matter of the assistant head coach swiping Vikes to support the head coach's habit, while having the GM attempt to conceal the matter (by telling the security guy to destroy the evidence, and then replace the evidence with un-incriminating surveillance).

But the cat's out of the bag -- some sort of tomfoolery was taking place -- stealing drugs, destroying/tampering with evidence -- I'm no Jack McCoy but me thinks those are criminal actions. Yet they are actions that will be part of an arbitration hearing where details can not be divulged in any capacity -- in other words -- the general public will never know how bad or blatant the Saints committed these crimes.

Even though the general public will never know these things -- will Commissioner Goodell and the NFL offices know these things. Because last I checked -- all of this happened under the NFL shield, right? So where do privacies begin and end?

And that's the big question I'd like answered. Because the Saints management tarnished the shield. The shield in which Roethlesberger also tarnished. The shield in which Belicheck was chewed up and spit out for tarnishing.

If Goodell knows the details, which I'm sure he does, will he penalize the Saints? Will he penalize the criminal behavior of their Assistant Head Coach, their Head Coach, and their GM -- the only ones missing in this cover-up is the President of the organization and owner Tom Benson.

It's time for Goodell to show consistency. As of now, the only Coach and Management team penalized by Goodell has been New England for Spygate -- New England was SLAMMED with penalties by Goodell -- losing a 1st round draft pick -- i believe another pick and receiving cash fines. Meanwhile, players get suspended regularly for far worse.

By all accounts, the Saints actions did not give them a competitive edge -- which so many people clamored about with New England's issue -- even though so many experts, especially former players, talked about what New England did was common behavior and widespread across a lot of franchises -- Despite this not being a competitive issue -- the Saints have tarnished the shield in a BIG way -- they broke the law -- in multiple ways -- and it wasn't a ball boy or an equipment manager -- it was the GM and top coaches -- aka the leaders of the organization.

So, Commissioner Goodell, on behalf of Patriot nation -- we can't wait to see how the Saints are handled -- the beloved Saints who pulled out from the dregs of NFL basement... who brought a city together -- whose coach isn't ornery and grouchy like Sir William --

Justice is blind -- too bad -- because if Justice could see the NFL shield right now -- there's a huge rip right square in the middle of it.

Wow. Did the C's win last night or did I dream that??? What a performance by the C's in this series. One of the great upsets of a number one seed. Everyone was talking about how great Cleveland and their supporting case was going into this series...then all of a sudden all the so called "experts" here to the right did a 180 and starting clammoring about how bad Cleveland's bench was. How about giving the C's some credit??? KG is finally back to 85-90% of what he was in 2007. Rondo is much BETTER than he was when they won it. The Celtics are a force to be reckoned with if KG is healthy. There was a lot of symbolism at the end of the game last night. Lebron taking his jersey off while walking down the tunnel...the Cavs QUITTING with three minutes left...a lot of crazy stuff. On to Orlando...I like the C's mental makeup right now...they are all business. There was no celebrating in the press conference. Bring on Ron Jeremy and his band of merry men.

By making Weber State's Tim Toone the last of 255 players selected in the 2010 draft, the Detroit Lions left another 1,100 hopefuls looking for work last week as roster building across the National Football League moved off Radio City Music Hall's center stage and into the football community theater of the undrafted free agent — or UDFA — market.

Toone's anointing as this year's Mr. Irrelevant stands at a decided ridge-line in the NFL offseason. On the heels of the veteran free agency period, a record 45.4 million viewers tuned in to the three days of televised draft coverage, and 12,000 more filled Radio City Music Hall for the show. But once the curtains went down and the lights came up Saturday, the vitals of this UDFA class were entrusted to a handful of team websites and hardcore blogs smattered across the Internet.

This is NFL off-roading, as 32 teams race roughshod across the twilight side of the hill — and oftentimes each other — looking for the best of the rest. According to James Christensen of NE Patriots Draft — which, despite its name, is a nationally-acclaimed central repository of all UDFA signings — the first of the undrafteds was snatched amid the Mr. Irrelevant fanfare, as the San Diego Chargers announced the signing of Tulane's Jeremy Williams a mere five minutes after the last pick. NE Patriots Draft went on to report 275 UDFA signings before midnight Saturday. A process requiring three days to place 255 draftees had been surpassed in less than seven hours.

While it can be a whirlwind, this period also offers collateral benefits to the undrafted player, who is given a freedom of choice not enjoyed by his drafted peers. In his senior year at Boston College, Indianapolis Colts safety Jamie Silva earned first-team All-ACC and All-America honors, as well as the 2007 Champs Sports Bowl MVP. Despite a pedestrian 40-yard time at the NFL Combine, his accomplishments should have landed him as a late-rounder in the 2008 draft. Nonetheless, Silva's name was never uttered from the Radio City Music Hall podium.

"It was disappointing the second day of the draft when names were getting called and mine wasn't," admits Silva. "There were guys getting called at the safety position I had never heard of. When you're going into it as a player, you're thinking, okay I'm probably listed as the number whatever safety, and you hope to go higher. I obviously dropped below that. It was kind of a letdown."

His disappointment had a short shelf life, however, as Silva soon became a centerpiece in undrafted free agency. Eight teams immediately called on his services. "Once the last draft pick went, I started to get a lot of phone calls," he recalls. "I'd be on the phone with one team, and they're trying to sell their organization to me as another team is calling. It was pretty hectic for a while."

Silva found himself with the opportunity to decide everything from where he'd work to what he'd be doing, and the chance to play for Tony Dungy in a Tampa-2 defense won the day. By contrast, the Oakland Raiders' Darren McFadden, the fourth player drafted in Silva's 2008 rookie class, had little choice; two years, five touchdowns, and eight fumbles later, he's now cloaked in anonymity in a city and a system that hasn't worked. For Silva, with so much so hastily thrown in his lap and eyes wide with wonder, he had to feel the choice from within. "There were teams putting the pressure on — some teams more so than others. I had to make a quick decision, and I felt that I couldn't really go wrong with choosing the Indianapolis Colts."

Of course, most UDFAs don't have eight teams from which to select an employer. Many will be lucky to have even one. It's not unusual for upfront interest to wither in the fickle suitor's eye, and when it doesn't, the road gets even rougher. Like the mountain banshees of Avatar, a team that has locked in on their UDFA will next try to kill him. There is no guaranteed roster spot accompanying this courtship. Some players will be expected to retool their games considerably, if not change positions altogether. Others will spend training camp as glorified tackling dummies for drafted and established players to demonstrate their worth.

Nor is there a $45 million contract laying in these weeds. Last year, in a CNBC Sports Biz column, Darren Rovell pegged the largest signing bonus among Silva's 2008 UDFA peers at $23,000. As Rovell observed, these bonuses typically don't equate to even a single year's worth of scholarships, making the UDFA the NFL's version of the unpaid intern. But just as legions line Wall Street for these opportunities in the corporate world, so do players in the NFL. Take Brown University's Bobby Sewall.

Despite his blazing 4.4-second 40-yard Pro Day speed, the All-Ivy wide receiver had no misgivings about his draft status, even as sites like NFL Draft Scout projected him with sixth-round upside. "I'd just be happy to get on a team," Sewall admitted in the days leading up to the 2010 draft. "It's a lifelong dream of mine."

Sewall was not invited to the NFL Combine and, as a Rhode Island resident, was limited to the lightly-scouted Pro Day held on Brown University's Providence campus. Many teams never saw him work out. Nevertheless, interest was high, largely due to his athleticism and versatility. "I'm getting tons of calls from teams I didn't work out for," Sewall reported before last week's draft, "Hopefully those numbers — 4.39, 41-inch vertical — show teams that I have the ability to play at this level."

In college, Sewall played quarterback, tailback, and receiver, returned kicks, and even saw a few snaps on defense. "I pride myself in the ability to play multiple positions. I have a good football IQ. The more you can do, [the] more reasons to keep you around."

And Sewall has another key resource in fellow Rhode Islander Jamie Silva, who knows first-hand the difficulty in securing a roster spot as an undrafted free agent, let alone one from his home state — only seven have produced fewer NFL players, and Silva is one of only three Rhode Islanders currently active in the league. It's an albatross that can only be overcome with hard work and determination. That's the message Silva will be spreading to local kids this June when he hosts his first youth football camp and seven-on-seven tournament in hometown East Providence, and it's the same message he has for aspiring NFL players like Sewall. "I tell the younger guys going into camps to have confidence," he says of his role as counselor. "They're getting brought in for a reason. Play like you belong there."

It looks like Sewall will get that chance; he went undrafted last weekend but signed on with the Tennessee Titans early Sunday afternoon. And when he reports to rookie camp in Nashville later this week, he'll bring Silva's advice with him.

"He said to get in there and work as hard as you can," says Sewall. "'You'll realize there's a lot more parity than you think between the big-name guys and small-school guys who may have been overlooked earlier on.'"

At one time, both Silva and Sewall would have preferred the distinction of draftee over UDFA, even if it meant playing for teams and in roles not of their choosing. But with the light of day following the long NFL roster-building process, they can each establish a legacy in what they leave on the field, not on what they didn't take from Radio City Music Hall.

The Big 3 came through. This was a dismantling. Cleveland looked like they didn't care. I actually felt bad for their Al Roker lookalike coach in the post game press conference. I thought KG hit it on the nose...tomorrow night's game is the C's game 7. They need to take care of business at home. It's hard to envision Cleveland winning the next game. They C's will have to pull a complete no show to not have a legit chance of winning. The C's clearly have established themselves as the superior team. It's key to avoid a game 7. It would be a tall task to beat the officials and the Cavs in that game...

The BBB spoke with Tim Donaghy on Celtic's Late Night Radio last night. I found the broadcast very intriguing. I guess he was on two radio shows a fews weeks back and they made him pick games and he went 13-1 against the spread. According to the him last night the FBI has contacted him and discouraged him from doing this in his future appearances. So, there wasn't any more picking of the games last night(which would be enthralling radio in my opinion)

Former NBA Referee, Tim Donaghy, has gone on record recently stating that he is certain that David Stern and the NBA will do whatever they can to ensure a Lakers/Cavs NBA Finals. Being a die-hard NBA fan for my entire life, I have tried not allowed myself to believe a lot of what’s been claimed about the NBA fixing games. The evidence this post season, however, is undeniably suspect.

Through three game’s played in the semi-finals, LeBron James has played 123 minutes (41, 43, 39) and only been called for three personal foul’s. In three game’s the Celtics have been called for 21 more fouls than the Cavaliers (78-57).

Coincidence? Well, lets look at the officiating crew for each game of the series.

Game One:
Rush, Spooner, Phillips
Celtics 25 personal foul’s / Cavs 17 personal fouls

Game Two:
D. Crawford, Bavetta, Malloy
Celtics 31 personal fouls / Cavs 16 personal fouls

Game Three:
Salvatore, Mauer, Zarba
Celtics 22 personal fouls / Cavs 24 personal fouls

We all know that officiating can control the flow of the game in more ways than just personal foul’s called. As Tim told me yesterday, officials can control the game by controlling turnovers, technical’s, etc.

What may even be more suspect is that Tim Donaghy was given 14 post-season game’s to predict based solely on the officiating crew’s assigned and his knowledge of league initiatives.

Donaghy’s record? 13-1.

There's been no official diagnosis yet we keep hearing about his boo-boo. This reminds me of Al Cervick in Caddyshack and George Costanza. Two of the greatest elbow injury fakers of all time.

Hockey vs. Basketball - How Can You Even Compare?

When you live in the Northeast, as a sports fan, you have choices. Folks in the South and friends in the Great White North don't. They try -- but they don't really have choices. So in the Northeast, it's baseball in the summer, football in the fall, and then in Winter people usually choose one or the other.

How many kids did you grow up with who were really good at basketball, but couldn't stick-handle to save their life? How about the hockey player who could shoot a puck 90 MPH, but couldn't dribble a basketball. Yes, usually it's one or the other. And the interests in those sports follows. But not everyone made the hockey or basketball teams in high school -- and there are plenty of casual fans out there who like to follow both.

Because of the timing of everything -- hockey and basketball are very often compared to each other -- which is the better sport, which is more exciting to watch, etc.

These questions are always answered this time of year -- because it is this time of year when one sport steps it up a notch while another sport exposes its flaws more and more.

Hockey rules the argument.

Basketball may a better run organization, and has the revenues coming to prove it -- but is it just good marketing?

Which game is more global? Basketball with individual guys like Ginobli, Ming, Nowitzki. Or hockey with countries like Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, et al passionately following the game on the frozen pond. It's funny because the NFL and NBA are eyeballing putting franchises in Europe, when don't you get the impression that the NHL could do it TODAY and they would thrive?

The NBA bothers me -- it is an agenda-laced organization pre-occupied with scoring the best ratings than letting the games play out.

Someone explain why the Celtics have a Monday game, and then don't play until Friday -- why because Northeastern graduates at the TD Garden? I don't buy it.

The Bruins -- every other night -- no questions asked. In fact all hockey playoff series are every other night.

In the playoffs -- the intensity picks up in both sports -- but in basketball - when Kevin Garnett throws an elbow in the middle of a scrum, he's getting a game suspension. Watch the playoff hockey game -- how many times are punches thrown after a goalie covers the puck. There's multiple scrums like this in the playoffs -- in every single game -- and nary a penalty is called.

It's no secret -- the stars get the calls in the NBA -- Lebron can take 7 steps and they won't call traveling. Phantom fouls are called with ZERO explanation -- there is a notable one out there right now with Marcus Camby being called for a foul nowhere near Steve Nash. I'm sure stars get calls in the NHL -- but they aren't nearly as blatant -- nor do they occur as often.

At the end of a close game in the NHL -- the game heats up -- the play intensifies -- and the speed is electric. At the end of a close game in the NBA -- there are timeouts after every.... single.... possession. UGH There are fouls upon fouls, upon fouls to force clock stoppage and to get the ball back. It's a painful boring process.

In basketball -- it's considered a badge of honor to take a charge and let someone run into you.

In hockey -- someone is always running into you so forget that -- instead it's considered a badge of honor to throw your body in front of a 100 MPH slap shot. Watch a close game in hockey when there is a 1 goal lead -- 2 maybe 3 guys will dive in front of a slap shot to prevent it from getting to the net.

Today -- both sports have elite stars -- Kobe and Lebron are two of the great ones -- however so are Ovechkin and Crosby -- and a novice eye can appreciate all 4 of them. But it takes 20 guys to win a hockey game -- in basketball it only takes 2-3. Which is odd because basketball has 5 guys on the court, where as hockey only has 6.

I am not a biased fan -- really -- i probably watched as much hockey as I did basketball this year and the past 5 years. In fact, after the Bruins disappointing game against the Penguins several weeks back, I was so disgusted with that game, that I put the B's on my suspension list -- watching no games -- wearing no hats or shirts for the rest of the regular season. So if anything I watched more basketball than hockey this year -- but the same stories always play out -- so it's no surprise I find myself watching the Canucks and Blackhawks game vs. even having a clue what the other basketball game was last night.

If you've chosen to watch basketball over hockey -- then I applaud David Stern -- he's fooled you good -- from phony fouls -- to drawn out playoff series -- to rigged series-plot showdowns --

If you've chosen to watch hockey over basketball -- then there's nothing else to say -- you already understand.

The B's, C's and Red Sox all took care of business last night. Great night for Boston sports. Rasheed Wallace finally woke up, Lucic finally scored, and the Sox offense finally came alive. What a night! It's always better waking up in the morning with vics. I enjoyed the Celtics pumping the Cavs after having to sit through the Lebron MVP ceremony. They should play that video at the garden before the next game. Now, we can listen to the fake elbow injury excuses all the way up to Friday's game. Here's a nice clip below of Lebron travelling. No matter how far the B's go this postseason, this will be the only series where they have a better offensive team than their opponent.

If you want to look up the stats, don't. If you wish to argue this point, don't. If you want to belabor the point, don't. Do yourself a favor and just listen to the Kid. They are the better offensive team now that both Simon Gagne and Jeff Carter have been ruled out of this series. And this is true regardless if Savard shows anything this series. The teams played tight during the regular season and KO sees it going roughly the same way. They are better in net without a doubt and me thinks they will score more than you think. After all, they did get through a bunch of pucks past the best goalie this season in Miller. If you like physical hockey, this is your series. Philly will try to bully their way by the B's but the Kid knows the B's will respond and be physical right back with Lucic, Sobotka and Thornton leading the charge. Expect a few fisticuffs along the way in this old school, rough and tumble playoff series. Bottom line, KO will be disappointed if the B's can't win this series and sees it ending in 6.

Since the surge of the Boston Bruins, more and more people are tuning into Bruins play-by-play. For those of you who remember Jack Edwards, he was a contemporary of John Dennis at Channel 7. Bob Neumeier, Bob Lobel, Mike Lynch, Mike Dowling, John Dennis, and yes, Jack Edwards. That's who I remembered -- so when he shifted over to ESPN while I was in college, I remember rooting for him to succeed. That was the big time of sports journalism. And Edwards got in there early -- spending 12 years there.

So while people want to blast Edwards for his over the top soliloquies of Bruins hockey, bear with him.

Is he trying too much sometimes? It seems like it -- which is unfortunate, because he calls a good game. He knows the game much better than the average fan. And therefore, the Howard Cosell-ian dramatics are unecessary. Are the dramatics all bad? No. And people over-react far too much to that.

Did he go over the top last playoffs with the American Revolution analogy in the first round of the playoffs -- yes -- it was like watching one of those uncomfortable scenes in The Office where Michael Scott says or does something and you're watching a train wreck...

Was Monday night's conclusion bad? No -- I didn't think so -- the Edmund Fitzgerald reference was obscure enough to be cool. People only know the song by Canadian Gordon Lightfoot. But it's a true story about a ship that was used to transport iron from Superior, Wisconsin to Buffalo, NY.

But it's OK -- Edwards knows hockey. He's a local guy having gone to UNH, having worked in New England pretty much his whole life, and has enough of that homer-ism that you believe he genuinely roots for the Bs.

Does he try too hard? Ok -- sometimes.

Is that terrible? What would you rather have -- someone who knows enough about hockey to understand icing or offsides, but barely understands the roots of the Bruins? Someone who does nothing to impress you? I guess the big issue I can see is Edwards doesn't need the corny calls. He doesn't need the dramatics. He's good enough without them. He's good enough just calling the game. And the monologues end up being those 10 minute drum solos that send you leaving your seat at a concert to use the bathroom...

Why is it Heinsohn is revered for his green-colored lenses or the way Johnny Most called the C's game. Derek Sanderson was loved for his lopsided opinions.

Give Edwards time. He's 53 yrs old and I think if all played itself out, this could be his last job that carries him into his mid-late 60's. If he does, people will look back at his play-calling days with fond rememberance.

"Unfortunately, Coach Wyche's passion for what he does contributed to his brief lapse in judgment, and it was caught on film. I am sure he is embarrassed by it. Anyone who has coached can understand his frustration, and this is probably one of those moments he wishes he could have back.

Flag Football Coach pulls a Woody...

Multiple BBB South correspondents notified me of this story down in Fort Lauderdale. Looks like this coach pulled a "Woody Hayes" in a women's flag football game.

Referees caught Stranahan flag football coach Bennett Wyche on Tuesday pulling the flag of a Western High player headed for the end zone.

What Wyche didn't know was that a spectator's camera caught him in the act as well.

A photograph sent to the Sun Sentinel shows the coach grabbing the flag of Western safety Jessica Lucarelli as she speeds past him on an interception return.

"There was nobody between [Lucarelli] and the end zone," said Western coach James O'Brien. "I even heard the ref turn to the coach and say, ‘What are you doing?'"

The District 22 flag football semifinal was scoreless with about eight minutes remaining when the junior intercepted a pass around the 50-yard line and started down the sideline.

"I saw the coach out of the corner of my eye," Lucarelli said. "I was shocked. You definitely don't expect something like that to happen. I was upset. He took away my glory and was teaching a horrible example to his players. What does it prove?"

A referee ruled unsportsmanlike conduct and credited the Wildcats with a touchdown. Western won 6-0 to advance to Wednesday's District 22 title game against Fort Lauderdale at South Plantation High. Fort Lauderdale defeated Western 7-6.

"It was the wrong thing to do," said Wyche, last year's Sun Sentinel Coach of the Year after guiding the Dragons to a state semifinal appearance. "It was embarrassing and we have no comments on it."

Neither Stranahan Athletic Director Jen Hamilton nor Principal Deborah Owens could be reached by phone Wednesday.

"The more that I think about it, the more I think he should be reprimanded," O'Brien said. "But I'm going to let administrators handle that."

On a day when the C's and B's are advancing to the second round we have The Fellowship of the Miserble(WEEI in particular) which has nothing better to do then bash Tommy. We here at the BBB support Tommy 100% and tip our cap to a Legend. The officiating was atrocious last night. The Celts didn't even go to the line until the midway through the 2nd quarter. Up until that point it was COMPLETELY one sided. They made up for it with some make up calls towards the end of the half but still it warranted Tommy calling them out. Even Mike Gorman thought it was terrible. Dennis, Callahan and pissboy Meter did you even watch the game? What a joke.

Tommy Heinsohn is Celtics basketball. Perhaps the only person who did more with the Boston Celtics is Red himself. Unlike some other greats, and this is not a knock against the likes of Russell, Bird, Cousy, etc, Tommy Heinsohn has been affiliated with one basketball franchise since he graduated from Holy Cross in 1956. One team for 50+ years. That's not just dedication to a team, but to the New England community. Basketball legends can get coaching jobs without any coaching credentials. Heinsohn won 2 championships in the 70's as a coach and then was asked to step down midway through the 1977-1978 season, at the age of 44. What I find interesting about that is he didn't take up a new coaching job the next year in somewhere like San Antonio, or Denver. One would think a basketball legend with 2 championship rings would have had offers pouring in to coach another team. No other team affiliations. Bob Cousy played and coached for the Cincinatti Royals. Bill Russell coached the Sacramento Kings and Seattle Supersonics. KC Jones -- the Bullets and Sonics. Heinsohn... One team, one community, one family.

Pete Carroll made a splash over the weekend at the NFL Draft. The Commish takes a look back at his time with New England and why Pete is easy to cheer for...

When Bill Parcells resigned from being the head coach in New England, I can’t remember a fan, or prognosticator who believed New England would be better off without him.

It’s been 10 years since Pete Carroll marched the sidelines of New England. Carroll had that unenviable task of following the footsteps of the man who saved football in New England.

Carroll was the anti-Parcells – cordial, respectful, forthcoming, and ultimately an easy target. To look back at Carroll and consider his run a failure may be true based on numbers, but may not be the full story.

While Belicheck has enjoyed a run of legendary porportions – the circumstances were different. Belicheck took control and built a system where he was the boss. Remember Bobby Grier in New England? No Bobby Grier’s with Belicheck.

Carroll spent 3 years here – with a combined record of 27-21 in the regular season – the trouble is he went 10-6, then 9-7, then 8-8, progressively moving in the wrong direction. And reporters began chewing him up – ala Ron Borges. Fans doubted, players went up the back stairs to Bobby Grier. Carrol was undermined and no one stopped it – including Kraft. Carroll was probably so excited to be a head coach again, those terms and conditions of the job were not closely investigated. A mistake he has adamantly said would change the next time.

Seattle is Carroll’s 3rd and likely final chance to be a head coach in the NFL. He didn’t get a fair opportunity in New York with the Jets, where he went 8-8 his only season as the coach – the year before Keyshawn joined them. After NYJ, Carroll went back West to become the defensive coordinator for the 49ers where he built a very strong defense.

Then 1997 was his 2nd chance. In New England, Carroll was in a no win situation. Had they won, Parcells would have received the credit. Had they lost, Carroll would have been blamed.

The pressure in New England back in 1997 was ultra-intense. Parcells constructed a legit football team in a time when none of the other Boston franchises were seeing any real success. The Patriots were the only real game in town. But the way everything unfolded, with McDonough leaking the Parcells to Jets story. I remember how a reporter asked Chris Slade on Bourbon St before the Super Bowl, how he felt about the news of Parcells leaving to go to the Jets after the super bowl. And Slade had this look of astonishment.

The Patriots were a young team filled with talented, but not fully matured, guys. Think about it – Bledsoe, Glenn, Slade, Curtis Martin, Tedy Bruschi, Ted Johnson, Willie McGinest, Lawyer Milloy, Ty Law. They were the core of the team and they were all young. In addition, they were all brought in by Parcells.

They were betrayed, bewildered and unprepared to face the ways of a ruthless coach looking out for himself. The way Parcells treated them and the way he left them definitely had an effect on the players and management. Foxboro was burning and they gave Carroll a garden hose to extinguish it.

Going to USC for Carroll was probably his best ever career move. He had an opportunity to re-establish himself as a coach, leader, and strategist. It brought Carroll back to relevance. And while the NCAA regulators are itching to drop the hammer on USC, those sanctions aren’t a complete reflection of the Carroll tenure at USC.

A better reflection is the success he had over 10 years, along with the pedigree he rolled out to the pros.

Before Carroll got to USC, do you remember how many USC grads turned into studs, or even solid contributors? Keyshawn Johnson and Rodney Peete are the only names that come to mind. And Rodney Peete was back in 1988.

And these are off the top of my head. USC became a breeding ground of pro talent out West, under Pete Carroll’s watch.

People like to point out that Carroll is getting out before the hammer gets dropped, which seems convenient. But I don’t think that’s the only reason. If you’ve listened to Carroll since being at USC, all along, his opinion has been that he would only leave for the right situation.

Seattle could be that right situation. Two years after Holmgren had Seattle consistently competitive, Carroll takes over a team who still has some of that talent, but missing leadership.

Matt Hassleback is 35 yrs old and not long for the NFL. He could play this year, and maybe one more year, but realistically, Carroll has a chance to bring in his own franchise guy – something he didn’t get to do in New England.

In short, Seattle isn’t looking too good right now. So coming into a situation like this may give Carroll the chance to rebuild after Seattle had already burned down last year.

In summary, Carroll has always been likeable, and while I called for his head in 1999, I’ve rooted for him to succeed wherever he went – Seattle is no different.

Grande stood for the entire game and a female fan sitting above Grande claimed she could not see the action on the east side of the court clearly. The fan complained to security and arena officials to no avail and screamed repeatedly at Grande to sit down. Grande refused. Arena officials approached Grande during the broadcast and he had a conversation with an official while calling the game.

A companion of the fan then started screaming expletives at Grande and said he hoped he could be heard on air. The female fan followed by yelling to Grande, “Who do you think you are?’’

Chico Meng drops in the BBB to examine the Miami Heat. Wade has to be kicking himself. They should announce the lineup like this..."Introducing your Miami Heat...Dwayne Wade and four other bums"...enjoy...

After watching the C’s hammer the Heat on Tuesday night and noticing the “1 man show” offense employed by the Heat (give the ball to Wade, watch him launch shots), I took some time to review their 2009/2010 roster. Not sure exactly how much I learned, but I did determine that D-Wade must be a lonely man. He is one of the premier players in the NBA, already has a title under his belt, yet probably can’t name half the players on his own team. The deeper that I looked, the more that I realized just how pathetic the Heat’s supporting cast is. It amazes me that this team won as many games as they did this year. Kudos to their odd looking coach for getting the most out of this motley crew. The real fun will come for Miami after this season if / when D Wade opts out of his current deal and bolts via free agency.

So in preparation of tonight’s game 3, here is the BBB Guide to the Miami Heat Supporting Cast:

Jermaine O’Neil: One of my least favorite players of the modern era. He’s soft, doesn’t appear to try half the time and plays with no heart. Add it up and you have someone with great talent, great physical tools and decent regular season stats that go down dramatically when the playoffs roll around (career playoffs stats .422 shooting %, 13 points, 7 boards per game). It was fun watching this guy go 1 for 10 from the floor the other night with his silly turn around post moves. He’s a F/A after this season. Now that should give the Heat fans something to cheer about.

Michael Beasley: A second year player with promise, but is inconsistent. During her weekly interview on WEEI’s Dale and Holley show, Jackie McMullen mentioned that Pat Riley once claimed that Beasley is the “the most gifted offensive player that I have ever seen”. Holley called BS on the comment by responding that “it really makes you wonder about Pat”, and I completely agree with him. Beasley should have a nice NBA career, but Riley can’t possibly be serious with a comment like that.

The Q: I just don’t get how anyone can cheer for this guy. Almost like when the C’s had Ricky Davis, it was nearly impossible to root for his individual success. Speaking of Ricky D, many traits are shared by him and The Q: both can barely put a sentence together during an interview, both act and look like thugs, both get traded nearly every year and neither cares about their team success. Q the marksman has a career shooting percentage of .400. But don’t fret Heat Fans, his shooting percentage goes all the way up to .404 in his vast playoff experience (9 years in the league, second year in the playoffs). I find it very fun to cheer against this NBA nomad.

Udonis Haslem: Another unrestricted F/A after this season. He might actually find greener grass somewhere else as there will be some demand for his services. I view him as a modern day, poor man’s Charles Oakley. He helped during the Heat’s title run few years back, but he’s more of a role player than a difference maker. We’d love him if he was on the C’s because of his consistency and because he bangs the boards hard. But since he was mouthing off at the end of game 1 during the incident, he’s just another stiff until he hits the F/A market.

New York Giants

Is Brandon Jacobs in trouble?

Big backs don't last long in the NFL. They take poundings and simply wear down. This is Jacobs' 6th season in the NFL, but his 3rd or 4th of relevant playing time. The question is whether Ahmad Bradshaw is seeing more time or if Jacobs still continues to get his action. Coughlin likes to use 2 backs -- remember James Stewart and Stacey Mack? Then remember Fred Taylor and James Stewart?

Which WR will step up opposite Steve Smith?

You pick Mario Manningham or Hakeem Nicks. At the end of the year, Nicks was coming on strong as Manningham was dropping easy balls. Look for Nicks to get first crack.

Philadelphia

How badly will the Eagles miss McNabb?

In previous injury stints, the Eagles managed to make the playoffs with Jeff Garcia and AJ Feely going 5-1 during the regular season. Andy Reid has a strong system in place and that isn't changing. Although, Philly is as tough a town as there is when it comes to fans. And the Philly offense does not have any strong veteran leadership to guide them through bumpy waters -- Kolb, Lesean McCoy, Desean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin -- If Kolb starts slow, this will be interesting to watch

Do you root for Desean Jackson?

Do you really root for this a**hole? Or is he someone you'd like to see go across the middle with Polamalu dropping his shoulder?

Would it surprise you if Jason Avant became bigger than Jeremy Maclin?

Keep your eye on Avant -- that's all I'm going to say.

Washington

Can Shanahan make them contenders right away?

Well -- McNabb isn't just a good start, but a great start. The 4th pick is another good place to get going. It's a very difficult division to leap frog, but I think we'll all be surprised if Washington doesn't give them a run for their money.

Who is the starting RB in Washington?

I suppose it's Clinton Portis -- but with Willie Parker and Larry Johnson signing there -- what gives? Also -- is the market THAT bad that both Parker and LJ decide to go somewhere that already has an established quality RB?

Who starts opposite Santana Moss this year?

Last year it was Randle El who re-signed in Pitt. So it leaves Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly or plenty of other questions surrounding that spot. Kevin Curtis is a free agent and Donovan McNabb has publicly endorsed him.

Dallas

Is Roy Williams all done?(I will answer this question in hindsight, yes!)

Is he simply a WR in a TE body these days? After getting a chance to shine, Williams failed to take the reigns. This is a big year for him and he'll need to re-establish himself as a player

Is Mile Austin for real?

We've seen other WRs blast out like this before and then disappear just as quickly. Dallas is making him earn his next contract -- so he'll be motivated to deliver.

Marion Barber or Felix Jones?

I can't believe people are actually comparing them. Until Jones does anything really significant, Barber is my guy.

Minnesota

Does it really bother you that Favre takes his time deciding?

It doesn't bother me at all really. I'm not sick of him and he's a live by the sword die by the sword player who has died many times. Otherwise, I think people would applaud him more. Minnesota doesn't get to the NFC championship game without him. Although, this time, Childress should have spoken up and given Reid what he wanted for McNabb -- that was a very good fit.

Who backs-up Adrian Peterson this year?

Rumor had it they were interested in Ladanian but that plan fell through. At the RB spot, back-ups are huge. The question is how does Minnesota intend to address that. It clearly can not be who is currently on the roster, can it?

Green Bay

Is Aaron Rodgers really that good?

He has been since Favre left. And if anything, it should be an indication of the right way to breed a QB. Draft him and make him learn for 3-4 years. It seems to work well. Cassell is another example. Rodgers has made people easily forget Favre in Green Bay. That shouldn't change in 2010.

How long does Donald Driver have left?

Driver hits 35 this year and while there are guys still kicking it out at 35, it's still old for a WR. No reason to think Driver won't continue. And it's not like Jordy Nelson or James Jones' are major threats to unseat him.

How long does Ryan Grant continue to be the featured back in Green Bay?

For someone who came out of nowhere, he's going on a few years of solid play. The question is whether or not he keeps it up. Grant is still 28 yrs old but he is the big back mold.

Detroit

When do things start looking up in Detroit?

The question Lions fans have been asking since Wayne Fontes was coaching. Unfortunately, they are last in their division, but they're not as hapless as they once were. Still though 6 maybe 7 wins.

Is Calvin Johnson over-rated?

I've heard him called Megatron. I've heard all the virtues of him. Yet, the Lions still stink. I guess the bigger thing is how un-important is the WR position to the overall offense? If he were playing with Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, then Calvin Johnson would probably be on the road to Canton. But stuck in Detroit, he's good, but that's it for now -- good.

Will Matthew Stafford do anything special?

Do you know how many JR QBs come out of the draft and do very well? Hardly any of them. And when you look at NFL QBs... good ones... most of them were played college their Senior year. This is the one mark that concerns me of Stafford. He's going against the grain. Vince Young, Jamarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, Alex Smith -- only Big Ben Roethlesberger has succeeded quickly.... and look at that boob.

Chicago

Does Jay Cutler go bersek with Mike Martz as the O-Coordinator?

Yes. Yup. No question -- maybe a bunch of picks -- but a whole bunch of yards and TDs to boot.

Who turns into the next Mike Furrey in Chicago?

You remember Mike Furrey? Martz turned him into an 80+ reception guy in Detroit. You pick -- Earl Bennett, Deven Hester, Johnny Knox, Juaquin Iglesias, Rashied Davis...

New Orleans

Will Reggie Bush ever be anything more than a super-powered 3rd down RB?

For someone who was sooooo regarded coming out of college, it;s obvious that Pierre Thomas was as important as Reggie Bush last year. Bush is a nice asset for any NFL team, but it seems obvious he is not the next Marshall Faulk -- leading the team in rushing and receiving. Instead he's a solid RB who is capable of making big plays on special teams and playing an Eric Metcalf role.

Can Lance Moore find his way back in the fold?

This past year we saw Devery Henderson and Robert Meacham soak up plenty of receiving yards, along with Marques Colston. The year earlier Lance Moore was doing his best Wes Welker chewing up numbers. But injuries sidelined him and now it's a new season. Moore is currently behind Henderson and Meacham who they want to see establish himself as a clear-cut #2.

Atlanta

Who is the #2 WR in Atlanta?

Is it really Mike Jenkins? Am I missing someone else? Seems odd to go with him -- but keep your eye on Harry Douglas -- he was making noise before injuries and was still a 3rd round NFL pick.

Is this the year Michael Turner breaks down?

What? Is it unfair to say that? He missed 5 out of his last 7 games and he plays with a physical style that is not forgiving. When you're 5'10" 235 lbs, you pack a load -- but it wouldn't surprise me if they went RB early in Atlanta.

Carolina

Is Matt Moore really the starting QB?

Really? John Fox is going to rest his fate on Matt Moore? If Carolina doesn't make the playoffs in 2010, Fox could see the door. So it's a little surprising that they've made minimal efforts to sign some relevant veteran QB. But hey, at least Hunter Cantwell is on the roster.

Will Dwayne Jarrett finally get his chance?

I suppose this is his chance, but does anyone really think he's going to do anything -- come on already. This is the place where Jarrett goes in with the edge and then out of nowhere some young buck steals his time.

Tampa Bay

Is this is the worst WR corp in the NFL?

Who the hell is on this team? Maurice Stovall? Sammie Stroughter? Reggie Brown and Michael Clayton, Mark Bradley? Jesus

Was Derrick Ward a big time waste of money?

Well -- he was last year for Tampa. And Cadillac is another year removed from his injury. Cadillac returned to solid form and now Derrick Ward is 30 years old. It begs to wonder if Ward is going to be looking for work pretty soon if his contract doesn't have some reasonable terms.

Remember Earnest Graham?

Nobody else does.

Seattle

Is this this the worst team in the NFC in 2010?

Me think Pete Carroll purposely wanted to take over a team that really couldn't get much worse. And he successed pretty well in Seattle. Tell me this -- who excites you in Seattle? Julius Jones? Houshmanzedah? a 35 yr old Matt Hassleback? The team has some football players on it -- it's not a complete disaster. But when you look at Washington, Detroit, Tampa - or the other dregs of the conference, is Seattle worst of all of them. Probably not. I believe that honor is bestowed on Tampa. At least Tampa has veterans who know how to prepare for a season. And a coach who has been around the track before.St Louis -- how could I forget about St Louis --

Do they end up with Dez Bryant?(No!)

Seattle was rumored to be hot on the Brandon Marshall trail, but opted not to pay the price. So do they make a run at Dez Bryant instead? Given that Seattle just has so many needs that I think a core player is more critical. Walter Jones just retired and this is a strong O-Line draft. So expect that void to be filled

So who's running the ball in Seattle this year?

Would it shock you if Lendale White landed there? Pete could be eyeballing former USC guys like Lendale who are mired in unfavorable situations. And given the way Reggie Bush has played in the pros, I think Carroll knows as much as anyone how important Lendale was to their offense back during the National Championship run. Another USC to watch for is Dwayne Jarrett.

Arizona

Matt Leinart -- Star or Failure?

This is it for him right? Leinart has carte blanche to succeed with a strong supporting cast of players like Fitz, Breaston, Wells, Hightower, etc. You wonder if he learned anything these past 2.5 years watching Kurt Warner return to glory or did he sulk and pout for not being handed the football. When guys have time to learn under a very good veteran and not get thrown into the fire -- they seem to have a better chance of becoming a quality Matt QB -- Aaron Rodgers, Matt Cassell, and Matt Hassleback are some of the names that come to mind. But there were others -- guys who were behind proven vets -- Steve Young, Rich Gannon, Brad Johnson all paid their dues at given times.

Is Steve Breaston going to be better than Anquan Boldin?

That may seem like a very tall order -- but Boldin lacked one big thing -- durability. So if Breaston can stay healthy -- there is a reasonable opportunity for him to produce as much as Boldin did -- as we've clearly seen the QB drives the WRs productivity. Not the other way around. I'll put it this way -- I don't think they'll miss Boldin as much as they'll miss Warner.

Does Beanie Wells turn into the primary RB in Arizona?

This is his year to turn into that -- although the way Hightower caught the ball last year -- it'll be tough to ignore him entirely. For now though, the money is on Wells getting first crack at 15-18 carries a game.

Will Fitz, Breaston, et al suffer with Leinart at QB?

Leinart was supposed to be the guy who would come in -- throw 3500 yds, 30 TDs, 10 INTs. If he does that -- plenty of people will get their share of attention. But if he ends up being a 19TD, and 17INT guy and Arizona shifts the offense to more ball control -- the supporting cast will be effected.

St Louis

Is AJ Feely going to start for St Louis all year long?(No!)

When you look at their roster, all signs point to St Louis drafting Sam Bradford. The reason I say that is because only AJ Feely is a viable QB option on their roster today. At given that Feely is 33, it's a ripe time for St Louis to draft a QB of the future. That said, do they throw him to wolves right away tossing up 10 TDs and 65 INTs? Or do they groom him and let Feely get tossed around for 8-10 games, then bring Bradford in for the final 5 or 6 games. Something to watch at least.

Will Steven Jackson run the ball 400 times this year?

Don't be surprised by that especially if Bradford starts. It's worth watching who St Louis brings in to back-up Jackson, because right now it's Kenneth Darby and Sam Gado. It just seems thin at the RB spot and with Bradford likely going there, they will be more reliant on Jackson and the running game throughout the season. So get ready for it.

Do the Rams have any compelling WRs?

Donnie Avery came out gangbusters in 2008, but then sunk into anonymity in 2009, along with the rest of the WR corp. Will any of that change this year? The player to watch is Laurent Robinson who was acquired last year and then got injured thereby going on IR. He could return to readily contribute .

San Francisco

Will Alex Smith ever be able to perform under center.

When Alex Smith lines up in shotgun, he is a strong QB. However, when he's under center and drops back -- he's a different QB, and it's the wrong kind of different. The 49ers brought in David Carr to be a clear cut back-up and have told Shaun Hill he can seek a trade, which means Smith will have every opportunity to play under center.

Will Michael Crabtree be all he's advertised?

When he finally joined the team, Crabtree produced very well for a rookie. The question is whether he takes it to another level in his sophomore season. Me thinks he will make a difference for Smith and help take some burden off of Vernon Davis and Frank Gore.

Is Vernon Davis the best TE in the league?

You tell me -- Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez, Dallas Clark, Kellen Winslow Jr, -- for the next 3 years -- who would you rather have?

New England

Will they even have a TE this year?

Sure -- his name is Alge Crumpler. But is Alge more of a 3rd tackle than a pass-catching option. The Crumps is 33 yrs old this year and his most agile days are behind him. It's not like the TE in New England was Tony Gonzalez, but still, without a lot of WR options, it leads you to wonder what the plans are.

Which New England RB won't be back?

Faulk, Maroney, BJGE, Fred Taylor, and Sammy Mo... they're all part of the team. But they can't all stay with the team. Faulk is probably a lock as they just re-upped him and he does so much. Maroney is dirt cheap, which means he could stay -- or he could get traded in an effort to recoup some assets. BJGE is young -- while the others aren't really. It comes down to Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris. I believe both of them are 34 years old, and they are similar guys. So the question is which one doesn't make it. -- My guess is Sammy gets cut.

Buffalo

Who is going to start opposite Lee Evans at WR?

Josh Reed is a free agent. Terrell Owens is gone. This leaves guys like Steve Johnson and James Hardy as candidates. There has to be someone else. Buffalo looks like a place where Muhsin Muhammad, or Laverneous Coles could go and step right in. The question is how long before Buffalo makes that decision. An obvious option could be drafting a guy, but is that player going to do anything right away?

Trent Edwards or Ryan Fitzpatrick?

Doesn't this just seem like a place for Marc Bulger or Jeff Garcia? Are you telling me Garcia wouldn't be better options than these guys?

NY Jets

How many times will NYJ run the football?

The answer is close to 40 times per game -- well maybe 35. But it will be up there. Despite trading for Santonio Holmes, and having Cotchery, Dustin Keller, and Braylon Edwards, they still have Marc Sanchez who is learning the ropes. Last year, NYJ led the league with 602 carries (37 times per game). With Shonn Greene, Ladanian, and Leon Washington, that's probably going to continue. Figure 15-18 for Green, 12-15 for LT, and about 5-6 for Leon...

Who suffers the most at WR with the logjam between Cotchery, Holmes, and Edwards?

Does anyone else find it interesting that the best WR in that group might be the guy who was the 4th rounder and not the two 1st rounders. At least he's the one who won't be getting suspended in 2010. Truth is, Cotchery probably suffers the least because he's not going to be suspended like Holmes is and like Edwards could be. If Edwards doesn't hold onto the football, they won't give him the chances to drop many more. If Santonio takes a while to get into rhythm, he could lack chemistry with Sanchez missing the first 4 games. Both Edwards and Holmes are in contract years, so the motivation is there to deliver. Flip a coin right now.

Miami

How does Brandon Marshall help Chad Henne?

Marshall is a beast of a WR and could be just what Henne needs to establish some productivity. With Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams forcing teams to play the run, Henne could breakout into a big season.

Can Ronnie Brown ever stay healthy?

Would you be surprised if I told you that Ronnie Brown is 29 yrs old this year? Given the injuries of Brown, and the age of Ricky Williams, Miami seems ripe to go RB early in the draft.

Pittsburgh

Is Mike Wallace ready?

All signs point to Mike Wallace getting every opportunity to be the #2 WR in Pitt. As the #3 WR he delivered well as a rookie and should only get better. Then again, Pittsburgh signed both Shaun McDonald and Antwan Randle El this offseason. So what makes anyone thinks Wallace is a lock to start opposite Hines in 2010?

Is Limas Sweed ever going to do anything?

Well -- right now, he'll be the 5th WR in Pittsburgh behind all the aforementioned guys. So no, don't hold your breath.

Cleveland

Who is the starting RB in Cleveland?

They loved James Davis last offseason and he was making strides until the injury. Meanwhile, Jerome Harrison delivered when called upon. But are either of these guys what you expect in 2010? Tough to say other than Mike Holmgren made Edgar Bennett and Dorsey Levens household names back in Green Bay in the 90's.

Who are the starting WRs in Cleveland?

Mohammad Massoquoi and Brian Robiskie I suppose, right? But let's not forget Chansi Stuckey too -- as Mangini did trade to bring him... even though the whole passing attack in Cleveland was anemicDoesn't this seem like a place where a veteran can come in and at least show them the ropes?

Even though Holmgren is running the show, will they be any better?

When Tuna took over in Miami, he cleaned house. Holmgren didn't do that per se. Mangini is still the coach, and his coordinators are still there I believe. While overall, Cleveland was a train wreck in 2009, will Holmgren allow Mangini to do the game-planning and scheming. If Holmgren was on the sidelines, I might get more excited about the offense improving. But he's not. So there is a lot of uncertainty in how the play between the hash marks changes. Could Holmgren be using this a s a trial-and-error season to see what he can learn about what the players are capable of and what he needs out of a coach.

Cincinnati

Which Antonio Bryant will show up in Cincinnati?

This is Bryant's 5 team and in some places, he delivered like a top 20 WR. In other circumstances, he disappeared. Last year's season was simply a forgotten nightmare for any Tampa Bay players -- so it's a fresh start with a top notch QB.

Can Matt Jones stay clean?

He's the Chris Henry replacement. The same type of player in size and lankiness. He'll be that guy who will get 2-25 one week and then 4-55-TD the following week. The question is whether or not he can stay out of trouble.

Does Bernard Scott give Cedric Benson something to worry about?

He came on strong out of the gate. And while Benson is the guy in Cincy, injuries happen plenty at the RB spot -- so don't rule out a situation when Scott gets a chance and sets the league on fire.

Baltimore

Is Mark Clayton a forgotten man in Baltimore?

Well -- kinda sorta, yes. Truth is, Clayton hasn't delivered on expectations either. And now that Mason is re-signed and Boldin is there, Clayton will get squeezed.

Is Willis McGahee all done?

Maybe not all done? But the days of being a featured RB are gone if you look at the reality of it all. He's also 29 years old and carries a big frame.

Indianapolis

Does Peyton Manning suffer the Super Bowl hangover of other losers?

Take a look at the seasons Donovan McNabb, Kurt Warner, Rich Gannon, and Tom Brady had after losing their super bowl games -- And I'm not talking about chumps like Grossman, or Kerry Collins... these were stellar QBs at the top of their games when they lost (Warner back against the Patriots)

Who steps up as the #2 WR in Indy this year?

Garcon? Gonzalez? or Collie? I'm sure there is a case for any one of them -- but it'll be most interesting to see who steps in as the #2 in the first training camp.

Does Donald Brown over-take Joseph Addai this year?

Addai had a better year than most noticed. And with that offense, there is enough to go around for touches. But Brown was brought in to take the reigns at some point. You wonder if he's capable and if this is the year.

Tennessee

Will any WR in Tennessee do anything productive?

Pretty simply -- probably not. Vince Young is the starting QB, and this is a reflection of the Atlanta Falcons and Michael Vick, when no WR ever came close to 1,000 yards

Is this the year Lendale White steps up?

Not unless Chris Johnson gets injured

Jacksonville

Mike Sims-Walker -- for real?

This'll be an interesting year for Walker. He was a more productive WR in college over Brandon Marshall (on the same team). But Walker likes injuries. It'll come down to that. We've seen some young WRs get the injury bug early in their careers and then learn how to play through it.

Who is the #2 WR in Jacksonville?

Who is going to be the primary RB in Houston?

Are there a lot of veteran RBs still available in the market? I'm struggling to keep up. They passed on LT, and plenty of rumors have been around them drafting one early. Arian Foster performed well down the stretch, while Steve Slaton could return to 2008 form.

Is Matt Schaub for real?

BIG year for Schaub last year, and that's because he played 16 games.

How old do you think Al Davis is?

He'll be in 81 in July. 81 - the only other profession where you're never too old to run an organization -- is public office. And look how good those guys do. Every other job - the board kicks em out after a while. Bet you didn't know that Al Davis was actually born in Brockton, MA

Is Darren Mcfadden yet another top RB who can't beat out other RBs?

Last year, not only did Michael Bush out-perform Mcfadden, but actually -- so did Justin Fargas.

Kansas City

Is Matt Cassell any good?

Last year's numbers were forgettable -- but so were the Chiefs overall. The question is whether Cassell was the reason.

Will Charlie Weiss turn Cassell into a stud again?

He knows the system very well. The Chiefs appear to be operating wisely, so this could be a big rebound for Cassell and Weiss.

Does Thomas Jones have anything left?

Jones is a vastly under-rated RB. Given his age (now 32) and his time in the NFL (this is his 11th season), Jones has proven to be a very durable and physical back getting the tough yards. There is no reason to believe he still won't be able to deliver a big year. Unless of course, you care about offensive lines and he was running behind one of the best in the NFL the last two years.

Is Darren Sproles really the starting RB?

Is this going to change at all? Because he's got to be the shortest RB ever to be considered a starter. Another place where you could see a high draft pick used on an RB.

Is Malcolm Floyd the #2 WR in San Diego?

Based on statistics last year, yes. But that was last year. The person I'd be paying attention to in 2010 isn't Craig Davis, but Legedu Naanee

How does Denver replace Brandon Marshall?

Good god-damn question -- Sorry to say that they don't have that kind of WR on their roster now... Sure Eddie Royal may rebound and have 90 grabs -- but is he going to rip down 12-13 TDs? Royal is a possession guy with great speed. But Marshall is just a beast -- breaking tacklings and running for 40 yard TDs... catching corner jump balls, etc... The other question is who starts opposite Royal?

Will Kyle Orton kill Josh McDaniel?

Not if Brady Quinn has any say in the matter. McDaniel is a Weiss guy. Quinn exploded at Notre Dame under Weiss. It's a decent formula, but will he be given the chance to beat out Orton?

Its just about draft time, so here are some questions and evaluations on some of the top players in this years NFL draft.

The order presented here represents a combination of skill, fantasy value, and pre NFL draft status.

1. Ryan Matthews - No questions here, a complete back in every way, with everything you need. Led nation in high school and college, with 4.37 speed.

2. CJ Spiller - Can he stay healthy enough to become the next rookie sensation? Maybe the most dynamic player in the draft. Top returner, also.

3. Jahvid Best - Is he too injury prone? Remember if there were more good backs this year, he is a NFL mid to late second rounder.

4. Sam Bradford - A good, big, accurate QB, I like him, but I dont like that he was injured twice on routine tackles.

5. Dez Bryant - Will a year off of playing, his diva personality, and the Deon connection, prevent him from being the freak that he is at WR?

6. Toby Gerhart - Already into the second tier backs - A very good player, but will he choose baseball instead?

7. Jonathan Dwyer - Tough north south runner, but he has never pass blocked or caught passes and is slow, but I would still take a chance on this guy's power.

8. Jimmy Clausen - Appears NFL ready, has the tools, but my only question is does he get rattled when he plays with the big boys?

9. Demaryius Thomas - Its a flip here with Tate, this guy is freakishly huge, and fast, but only had go routes and is coming off injury.

10. Golden Tate - Nice WR in open field, he appears to be able to get it done, is he too small?

11. Montario Hardesty - Big runner, but are scouts afraid of his injury?

12. Ben Tate - 220 pounds with 4.34 speed, is this guy the steal for someone who thinks they ONLY have the 10th-12th pick on the first Saturday in June?

13. Anthony Dixon - Big, fast, tough, can catch, is this the next everydown back in the NFL?

14. Tim Tebow - intelligence, athleticism, work ethic, competiveness, top resume in college history, just wins against now pro QB's, you might have to wait a bit, see where he lands, but I will be doggone if I start selecting, within reason, second tier receivers, third tier backs, when I see the player with the most upside outside the top picks, maybe in NFL history. Lets not forget toughness- got decapitated, was back the next week leading his team out of the tunnel for a win. (see other qb's)

15. Eric Decker - Things start to get shaky here.... Would have been a solid first round pick, but his injury has dropped his stock a bit. Will you take a chance on his extreme talent?

16. Damian Williams - Losing Mark Sanchez was supposed to drop his stats, instead they increased, he just gets it done, will he go higher?

17. Tony Pike - Took Cincy from worst to first, but will his injuries and lankiness might hold off his draft status?

18. Dan Lafevour - If he didnt have average arm strength would he be a solid second rounder in the NFL draft?

19. Jordon Shipley - Has the speed and intagibles, but is he too small or can he be Welker-like in the slot?

20. Arrelious Benn - Used to be a first rounder, but injuries have hampered him, should go higher than this?

21. Dexter McCluster - Darren Sproles-like, but can he take the pounding of the NFL at his size? Just a return man?

22. Jermaine Gresham - The best TE in the draft. Could be a great pickup depending on where he lands.

23. Brandon Lafell - Should have come out last year. Disappointing, injury-riddled season, but has 1st round talent.

24. James Starks - Didnt play last year, but a fine RB. Take a risk?

25. Joe McNight - Kinda of tweener for the pros. Big enough for RB?

Big Baby came up huge last night. He's been a force in the playoffs(this and last year). The Heat looked like they quit half way through the 2nd quarter. Richardson is so bad and so much of a non-factor it was impossible for the crowd to really get on him.

The C's look good so far hopefully they can put the nail in the coffin on Friday night. The post game press conference with Big Baby and Pierce was kind of odd. Big Baby brought back memories of Pierce putting a bandage over his head at the press conference in 2003 against Indiana. He's a strange fellow. I think that this clip says it all...say goodbye to the Heat because it doesn't look like they will be back to Boston until next year...

Chico Meng drops in the BBB to look at the opportunity Sheed has tonight to turn things around...

Rasheed’s performance during the 2009/2010 season has severely disappointed Celtic’s fans, Doc Rivers, the C’s brass and if he is being honest, himself. Last week I went as far as to suggest that C’s would have been better off with Toine over Rasheed. Although I stand by my specific comments, my intended message was more general: Sheed has been a BUST.

He started slow and short of a couple of random games, was consistently a non factor throughout the remainder of the season. The excuses made FOR him (in his defense, not by him) were many: It’s just the regular season, so no need to worry. This is the NBA. Veteran all stars can turn it on and off at will. The regular season is a grind, so the vets know to save some legs for what really matters, the playoffs. He’ll bring his “A” game to when it counts. I sit here today hoping that everyone is right because I want to cheer for Sheed. Maybe it’s just because he’s been here for only 1 season and has yet to earn his stripes with C’s fans, but as much as I want him to do well, he needs to prove it to me.

So the playoffs started and granted it’s only based on 1 game, but Sheed’s performance in game 1 was remarkably average:

You can get those numbers from Andrew DeClercq. Is he available? Can we sign him? I bet that he’ll take the league minimum. What about Tony Battie? Can we get him back? Maybe he’ll bring his brother back as a practice player as well.

But tonight, Sheed can make up for a season’s worth of hoisting bricks from beyond the 3 point stripe. The stars have aligned perfectly: Due to KG’s suspension, there is a giant hole in the C’s lineup. Big Baby will certainly help, but when it comes to defense, Sheed “as advertised” would get the job done. Because of the scrum at the end of the Game 1, the C’s need to play with intensity, but can’t get caught up in the BS too much tonight. Sheed “as advertised” would be able to handle this. He talks BS every game, he’s been in the playoffs with success before, this should be nothing new for him. Get him going with some easy buckets, he can start running his mouth as usual, and hopefully throw the punk ass Heat off their game.

The C’s fans want blood. The Garden is going to be a nut house tonight. Sheed can become an instant cult hero with an inspired performance. He could thrive with the fan support. A great performance and he’ll have earned his stripes in the eyes of the fans. It might even be the springboard that gets him going for what will hopefully be a long playoff run for the C’s.

We should all be so lucky as to be able to make up for 6 months worth of horrible professional performance with 60 minutes worth of effort. Let’s hope that Sheed takes advantage of his opportunity tonight.

Red Sox Hall...of reduced standards...

The Commish is back after a brief hiatus to the Emerald City to weigh in on the Red Sox Hall of Fame recent inductions. As far as the real Red Sox go...13 games in...I am not going to panic. In fact until the Bruins-C's playoffs are done the Sox take the backseat. I will leave the worrying up to The Fellowship of the Miserble. Red Sox Hall of Fame

When the Red Sox rolled out the Hall of Fame back in the 90’s I was not against the notion. I thought it was a decent way to pay tribute to some great Red Sox who weren’t quite good enough for the MLB Hall of Fame.

Dwight Evans or Luis Tiant were perfect symbols of that honor. Evans had a great career winning 8 gold gloves, and hitting more HRs than Jim Rice. But when it came time for Hall of Fame election, he barely received a sniff. Luis Tiant was before my time, but everyone swears by his big-game play in the 70’s.

I never really paid much attention to who else was getting into the hall – other than some notable names – like Fred Lynn (who still is the only player to win MVP and ROY in the same season).

But the other day – or a few weeks ago – they announced the latest class of the Red Sox Hall of Fame.

Jimmy Piersall and Eddie Kasko were before my time. Even Don Zimmer was a little early for me, although I do remember him. John Valentin was right in my wheelhouse. And this is when I knew something was amiss.

Valentin should be credited for his time at Fenway – but worthy of Hall of Fame? I really struggle with that notion. Everyone certainly liked Valentin, as part of the rag-tag team that would grind their way into the post-season.

But what was so special about Valentin? Maybe it was his all-star appearances. However, he didn’t have any. Maybe it was his 30 HR season – none of those either.

I guess it was just the year he finished 9th in the MVP race that sealed the deal. That and he’s an all around good guy.

I know this is a crap on Valentin session – but that’s not the intention. He unfortunately is the collateral damage.

The Boston Red Sox hall of fame was created to recognize the “outstanding careers of former Red Sox players and managers.”

I guess defining outstanding is subjective – because I struggle with this class.

Maybe I missed the point. I thought it was to recognize those guys who were pivotal to the Red Sox but not quite good enough for the hall of fame.

Don Zimmer is well-respected in the game and all. I get that – but isn’t he the same coach that was blamed for benching Bill Lee during the 1978 season due to an internal spat between them – didn’t they trade Bill Lee to the Expos for Stan Papi on Zimmer’s advice? They also had Ferguson in 1977 that Zimmer was rumored to convince management to trade away – Both Jenkins and Lee won 16 games each in 1979. Jenkins won 18 games with the Rangers in 1978.

But hey, Zimm, you paid your dues – you were once a member of this organization, so welcome to the Hall of “reduced standards”

Quinten Richardson is a punk. So let me get this straight...Richardson taunts and injured player and starts a melee and KG gets suspended. Ridiculous! The fans better show up tomorrow and heckle Richardson to no end. This guy has always been a punk. How about Oneal pushing Big Baby over during the scrum...no suspension? The NBA continues to model themselves after the WWE...Richardson at least should have been suspended as well considering he single handily caused the whole episode. The BBB is calling all C's fans going to the game to really blast him. We will have some suggestions for chants tomorrow. Please email us your suggestions.

Last week, I attended a funeral in Exeter, NH. My cousin’s husband died in Afghanistan serving our country. He was 30 yrs old and left behind his wife, Megan, and their 2 yr old daughter, Kensington. Not sure about you but I follow the war with one eye and one ear watching or listening to something else. I may hear 5 dead in Iraq on the news and gloss over that information as I plan my next fantasy football trade. But clearly, this one hit close to home. The family gathered in the church with a loss for words, as I sat next to aunts and uncles that I now might see once or twice a year. And while Megan tried to keep it together, moments hit her like a right hook from a heavyweight boxer.

Military personnel was scattered throughout the church. The Governor of New Hampshire, John Lynch, paid his respects, and told my cousin, “Thank you for YOUR sacrifice.” Outside the church, about 10 veterans dressed in their civilian clothes with patches on their jackets that would read "POW – We Will Never Forget" , or "82nd Airborn" , stood in front of the church each holding a 6 foot American flag. At the cemetary, there was the 21 gun salute, the bouquet of flowers decorated like the American flag, and the bugle that played Taps. There was the touching speech by another Staff Sargent, who was stationed in Germany with Josh for 3 years, who was in Afghanistan with Josh when he was killed, and who named his own son after his best friend, Joshua. There was the honor guard who choreographed a presentation of the flag, folded it crisp and clean, handed it to the military service man in charge, who presented it to Megan. Then there was the 2nd flag which was presented to the same service man in charge, who then presented to Joshua and Megan’s daughter Kensington.

Many watched Kensington be oblivious to the day’s events. She’ll never know her father and will not remember this day. She’ll only have memories from her mother and this flag and medals he valiantly earned.

As I stood at the cemetary, watching many weep uncontrollably, I couldn’t help but appreciate this man and what he represented. I am not a political activist. If I had a conversation with a smart & staunch Republican, that person could convince me that the red states are the right states. That building a wall is the way to go. Those social programs are for the lazy. That this healthcare plan is going to ruin our country. And if I had a conversattion with a smart and staunch Democrat, that person could convince me that the blue states are the way to go. That we need healthcare reform. That we can not abandon the less fortunate.

Call me indecisive and easy to persuade, I don’t really care. But I just thought about how people have the opportunity to believe these things, to argue these points, and to do whatever they want because of people like Joshua Kirk.

I have liberties and opportunities that people in other countries.can not begin to fathom.

In America, soldiers choose to be soldiers. There is no draft. There is no obligation like Israel that forces every man and woman to spend 2 years serving his or her country. Still, it does not prevent me from expressing sympathy, appreciation and sadness for the lost life. I can not just coldly think “well he chose to be a soldier,”or “that’s why we shouldn’t be over there.”

For me, it’s about this hero, his widow and their young child.

I began writing this on Monday (October 18th) – not really knowing where it was going -- but it seemed to come full circle yesterday. On Wednesday (October 21), I had a meeting at the World Financial Center in New York City – I entered an empty conference room on the 7th floor. As we set up and waited for others to arrive – I looked out the window and there it was, right across the street.

Sir Charles likes C's in First Round...

Sir Charles like the C's chances in the first round. I have to agree with him. I see the C's taking the Heat down in five.

“I think the Celtics, they are going to be fine the first round of the playoffs,’’ said Barkley. “I think their age is taking its toll, but they are going to be energized and fresh for the first round of the playoffs. They’re gonna get that rush.

“They know that everybody has been saying they’ve been saving up all season. So the first round of the playoffs, they are going to be ready to go. I don’t think they are going to get older or slow down until later in the playoffs.’’

“The Celtics went for it, they won a championship, and now they are just an older team,’’ he said. “Kevin Garnett is one of my favorite players, but you can tell he’s just not the same player. Kevin Garnett played hard every single night when he was in Minnesota. He didn’t have talent [on that team] and it’s caught up with him.

“Paul Pierce is getting older. Ray Allen is clearly older. [Rajon] Rondo has had a fantastic season. But I think they went for it that one year and they won a championship.

“You can see they are not the same. Their energy level is not the same. Me and Kevin [McHale] talk about it all the time. I joke about it on the air. When you get older and people say, ‘Well, when we get healthy . . .’

“Older people die, they don’t get healthier. The Celtics have hit a wall, to be honest with you.’’

“Dwyane Wade is playing with a bunch of Marlon Jacksons and Tito Jacksons,’’ Barkley said. “And quite frankly, Miami is just a decent team.

“I hope that don’t get them motivated. Give me a break.’’

Legal trouble

According to Orlando-Orange County public records (case 48-2004-MM-012392-O), on Halloween 2004, while a student at UCF, Marshall was arrested in Orlando on charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, refusal to obey, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.[56]

On January 1, 2007, Marshall was present at "The Shelter," a nightclub in Denver, Colorado, along with teammates Javon Walker and Darrent Williams. The trio was attending a birthday party held for and by Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin. As the players were leaving the club in a limousine, Williams was fatally shot in the neck after an unknown assailant opened fire on the vehicle. Willie Clark was later charged with the murder.[57] Walker has stated in interviews that the shooter was likely a nightclub patron whose motive was retaliation after being involved in an altercation with Marshall's cousin earlier that night.[58]

On March 26, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Highlands Ranch suburb of Denver on suspicion of domestic violence after his girlfriend reported that following a domestic dispute, Marshall prevented a taxi she was in from leaving his house.[59] Charges from the incident were later dismissed on May 25, 2007, after Marshall completed anger management counseling.[60]

In the early morning of October 22, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area at the intersection of 14th and Blake St. for driving under the influence of alcohol.[61] A trial was scheduled for September 16, but Marshall instead agreed to a plea bargain four days earlier; he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired.[62] He was sentenced to one-year probation and 24 hours of community service.

On June 12, 2008, Marshall was ticketed for an illegal lane change, then found to be without his license and proof of insurance.[63] The case was eventually dropped as part of a plea bargain for the October 22, 2007 driving incident involving alcohol.[62]

According to an article published in the Rocky Mountain News on July 28, 2008, Douglas County deputies fielded "about 11" calls to Marshall's home since January 2006. The article stated that one call resulted in Marshall being arrested (the March 26, 2007 domestic dispute), and some did not involve him at all.[64]

A September 17, 2008 article on CompleteColorado.com stated that the solicitor's office in Fulton County, Georgia filed misdemeanor battery charges on September 10 for an alleged incident on March 4, 2008, in Atlanta, Georgia. Marshall was booked on March 6, then released the next day after posting a $1,000 cash bond.[65] The case was assigned to Judge John Mather in Georgia state court.[66] On August 14, 2009, a jury in Atlanta found Marshall not guilty.[67]

On March 1, 2009, Marshall was arrested in Atlanta for disorderly conduct after allegedly being involved in a fight with his fiancee, Michi Nogami-Campbell. Marshall was released on a $300 bond.[68] The charges were dropped the following day.

After doing a bit more investigating, I realized that Anthony Walker was really former Employee #8, Antoine Walker (aka. Toine’, Cyber Toine’, Captain, or Punk if your name is Bob Ryan). He was recently cut from his team in the Puerto Rican league, meaning that his services are freely available to any NBA team, the Celtics included.

We all know the story: He played with passion while bleeding Celtic green. His
entertaining play gave the fans something to cheer about during the darkest days of the franchise’s history. His wiggle, although hated by most, allowed us true fans to throw SOMETHING in the faces of our opponents at a time when championships were not on the radar. Who can forget his timeout rant in the Eastern finals vs. NJ in the 2001/2002 playoffs? That was Toine’ at his best. I’ll always cherish the memories from being at that game live. (side note: one of my good friends who happens to have a pony tail down to his ass and a degree from WPI, was one of the many fans sporting a classic “wife beater” tank top in an effort to taunt Jason Kidd that night. No holes barred in Boston . Gotta love it.) We knew that they were not going to win the title that year, but Captain Toine made it interesting. Sure he shot too many three pointers, hated Rick Pitino (he was correct and ahead of the curve on that), loved subway and blew through $100M+ on gambling, cars and supporting his posse. But Toine loved being a Celtic, and wanted to win in a big way. He never wanted to get traded out of town, and despite some post Boston success (starter on Miami ’s title team), he his career has not been the same since leaving

Now for the part of the story where people may question my sanity: As a bench player, Toine’ would help the 2009/2010 Celtics. I’ll go as far as to say that I would rather have him over Rasheed Wallace right now….at least the Rasheed that we’ve seen this year. I know that by the NBA rules it’s too late. I also realize even if it was not too late, the likelihood of this happening would still be remote. But I stand by my opinion.

If we swapped out these two former NBA all stars, what would the C’s lose? Sheed can’t shoot the 3 anymore (28% this year), so nothing lost there. Sheed rarely goes down low, which is unfortunate because he should be able to school the second unit stiffo that is usually guarding him. He came with a reputation as a great defender, however he has not been a defensive difference maker for the team, and their team D has gotten much worse since his arrival. He gets too many T’s and has recently yelled at Doc on the bench. I guess we can hold out hope that he’ll get it all back in time for the playoffs, but things seem to be trending the other way with him.

So why Toine? He would accept his role, follow the instruction of the coach, think team first and add some badly needed attitude and desire to win. We have proof of this, as when he was reacquired by the C’s in the 2004/2005 season, he displayed these exact traits during their playoff run. Sometimes it’s the little things that get a team going in the right direction, not the acquisition of a big time player or canning a coach. Although he would not be the difference for the C’s between winning and losing the NBA title, I personally believe that he would bring more to the team for the rest of this season than Sheed will. One more meaningful wiggle please.

Court to hear fan lawsuit over Patriots’ ‘Spygate’

NEWARK, N.J. — The NFL’s ’Spygate’ is headed back to court.

The U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia is scheduled to hear oral arguments Wednesday in a lawsuit arising from the New England Patriots [team stats]’ secret videotaping of New York Jets [team stats] coaches in a game at Giants Stadium in 2007.

The suit was filed by a Jets season ticket holder who also is an attorney in New Jersey, and it claims the Patriots’ actions "violated the contractual expectations and rights of New York Jets ticket-holders" who paid to watch a game played in compliance with the league’s rules.

The Patriots were caught taping signals by Jets coaches, a violation of league rules, during the opening game of the 2007 season. New England won 38-14 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell fined Patriots head coach Bill Belichick $500,000 and the team $250,000 for that incident, and stripped New England of a first-round draft choice.

Carl Mayer’s lawsuit asserts that because other teams also found illicit videotaping by the defendants, Jets ticketholders should be compensated for all games played in Giants Stadium between the Jets and Patriots since Belichick became head coach in 2000.

"What we’re arguing is that professional sports is a business that has to respect the law just like any other business, and that teams that participate can’t commit fraud on ticketholders," Mayer said Tuesday. "The Patriots had altered the rules of the game and were playing with advance knowledge of opponents’ plays."

Mayer and co-counsel Bruce Afran also will argue that the Patriots violated federal racketeering laws as well as New Jersey’s consumer protection laws by concealing material facts — the existence of the videotaping — from paying customers.

The suit calculated that because customers paid $61.6 million to watch eight "fraudulent" games, they’re entitled to triple that amount — or $184.8 million — in compensation under racketeering and consumer fraud laws.

Mayer and Afran are appealing the dismissal of the case in March 2009 by U.S. District Judge Garrett Brown Jr. in Trenton. Shep Goldfein, an attorney representing the NFL in the matter, referred to Brown’s ruling in which the judge wrote that a ticket seller only contracts to provide entry to a ticketholder "to view whatever event transpires."

An attorney representing the Patriots did not return a telephone message Tuesday.

"People pay hundreds of dollars for tickets and expect a fair game," Afran said. "It’s not professional wrestling, where you know it’s rigged."

The Easter Bunny was good to the BBB on Sunday. My favorite part of Easter was watching Lebron go for win and choke. It doesn't matter that the C's gave up the big lead to me. It's impossible to stop Stern and the refs from allowing a comeback from the Lebrons. Lebron could be down 40 and still comeback. All he has to do is drive to the basket every time down and draw a foul or score. Very simple. Throw in the Tony Allen 3 Point bogus goaltending call and there's your comeback. It never ceases to amaze me at how bad the officiating is in the NBA. It's like watching the WWE...maybe that's why we come back for more punishment. Anyway, great choke job by Lebron.

Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton became famous after their sex tapes were released. Now Pop Tarts has learned exclusively that Vivid Entertainment, the company that released Kardashian's video, is releasing a sex tape starring controversial country crooner Mindy McCready and a former boyfriend named “Peter.”

A source close to the situation said that McCready and her ex engage in explicit sex in the XXX video. But that’s not all.

The star of Dr. Drew’s VH1 series “Celebrity Rehab” also kisses and tells in the film, titled “Baseball Mistress” due to her alleged affair with married pitcher Roger Clemens. In fact the video is interspersed with graphic details of several raunchy romps with a slew of stars.
On one of the interview portions, McCready says that she and Clemens didn’t get intimate until she was of legal age, and describes the MLB star as being “good” in bed, despite having “a lot of problems” with erectile dysfunction.

She also insisted that she isn’t a “bad girl,” saying the wildest place they ever got down and dirty was a hot tub in Palm Springs.

Despite a couple of close calls, McCready said she never actually met Clemens’ wife – although she has something to say to her now. “I wish she and I had spoken because I realize now that the stories I was being told from Roger weren’t exactly the truth,” McCready tells the camera.

McCready's representative issued a statement saying her record company was unaware of the source of the "alleged film."

"However, we have been informed by legal counsel that any illegally-obtained property, and/or fabricated footage, will be dealt with swiftly, following proper legal procedure," the company said. "We are awaiting a statement and direction from Mindy's legal counsel and will issue an official response shortly."

A rep for Roger Clemens had no comment.

McCready goes on to reveal just how far she did or didn't go with several celebrities, and refers to her ex-fiancé Dean “Superman” Cain as being better equipped behind closed doors then Clemens.

Among her many eyebrow-raising assertions, the Florida-born blonde even takes a stab at Oprah, calling her racist. According to McCready, the talk show queen told her she should have been strong enough to escape an abusive relationship because she is white, and she believes Oprah wasn’t really informed about the ins and outs of domestic violence.

Our source says “Baseball Mistress” will go on sale on Vivid.com on April 19.

The National Football Post reports Denver Broncos HC Josh McDaniels is rapidly building a reputation as a my-way-or-the-highway type of guy. In an extensive article on McDaniels, the Denver Post reports that the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator and star QB Tom Brady didn't exchange a word of conversation for three weeks during his first year coaching the Pro Bowl passer. That would suggest that it's not always the player who's the impetus for a conflict, including McDaniels' clashes with QB Jay Cutler, WR Brandon Marshall and TE Tony Scheffler in Denver. McDaniels made it clear that he doesn't intend to change his hard-nosed approach. "In terms of going through adversities, the goal would be to not have to deal with many, if any," said McDaniels. "When there are things that come up that you feel contradict your belief or your message that you've extended to your players, I think you have to react and hold yourself accountable to what you're saying you're all about. Or else your words become hollow and they stop listening. If you don't do that, you ask whether you really believe in your own message. And I do."

•The Rock Hill Herald reports the Panthers took care of a little housekeeping, getting their four exclusive-rights free agents signed. WR Kenny Moore, WR Charly Martin, DT Nick Hayden and LB Jordan Senn signed their one-year deals late last week. Their contracts had expired after last season, but they weren't able to negotiate with other teams.

•The Cincinnati Enquirer reports WR Matt Jones, who signed a one-year contract with the Bengals last month, will be in Cincinnati with most of the team on Monday, when the offseason conditioning program begins. It’s the first step on the road back to the NFL for Jones, who was a first-round draft pick by Jacksonville in 2005 but sat out last season due to inconsistency on the field and drug and legal problems off of it. “I knew if I stayed focused and I wanted another opportunity that I had to keep with it and work it out,” Jones said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to play with Cincinnati.” The road to Jones getting another chance in the NFL has been long. After being released by Jacksonville last March, Jones could not catch on with another team last season despite leading the Jaguars in receptions with 65 and yards with 761 in 12 games in 2008. It was during that year that things began to unravel for Jones.

-- Santonio Holmes Facing Civil Lawsuit --
•The National Football Post reports Pittsburgh Steelers WR Santonio Holmes has been hit with a civil lawsuit for assault and battery, a legal action stemming from an alleged March 7 incident at an Orlando nightclub. The lawsuit was filed on March 24, according to CourtHouseNews.com, and it makes allegations of assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The woman also sued the nightclub for alleged negligent failure to provide adequate security. The lawsuit alleges that Holmes was involved in a confrontation with a woman named Anshonoe Mills, who filed the civil action against the former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player. According to the court document, Mills alleged that Holmes put his hand in her face while attempting to make her leave a VIP couch inside Rain nightclub. Then, Holmes allegedly threw a glass cup filled with liquor in her face. That allegedly caused a laceration below her eyebrow and temporary blindness. The woman also alleges that she suffered "extreme mental anguish and embarrassment as well as physical injury." Mills said that Holmes offered her money because he was concerned about getting in trouble and affecting his NFL status. Mills alleged that she felt pressured by the Steelers wideout and Orlando police officers to not go ahead with charges. Mills states that no police report was filed.

•Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Ed Bouchette reports free agent RB Willie Parker (Steelers), who turns 30 on Nov. 11, remains unsigned. Parker is so bitter toward the Steelers about his treatment last season that he would rather sit out 2010 than play in Pittsburgh again. The Steelers hardly used Parker after he had a foot injury in the third game. He had a total of just 34 carries in the 10 games before the Miami game, when he ran for 91 yards on 12 carries.

•ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have re-signed LB Angelo Crowell to a one-year contract. Another Steelers Star Accused of Nightclub Attack
More nightclub problems for the Pittsburgh Steelers -- this time one of their best wide receivers is accused of attacking a woman with a glass and slicing her face open.

The man at the center of the drama is Santonio Holmes -- former Super Bowl MVP.

According to a new lawsuit filed last week in Florida, Holmes got into a verbal spat with a woman at Rain Nightclub in Orlando on March 7 over a spot on a couch in the VIP section.

According to the docs, the woman says Holmes began going crazy when she refused to move -- so he fired his glass full of liquor at her face ... causing a "laceration" very close to her eye.

Here's where it gets even crazier. The woman claims she flagged down cops from the Orlando PD but they, along with Santonio, "pressured" her not to press charges.

The woman claims Santonio even offered her money because "he was an NFL star and could not get into trouble."

A rep for the Steelers tells us, "We are aware of the situation, and we are still gathering information."

The accuser told police later that night Roethlisberger had assaulted her in the club's bathroom.

•AP reports Teams interested in acquiring Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb will have to part with a high draft pick to get him. A person familiar with trade discussions involving McNabb said the Philadelphia Eagles will only consider a deal for the six-time Pro Bowl quarterback if it includes a pick among the top 42 in next month's NFL draft.

•The New York Daily News reports RB Leon Washington's agent, Alvin Keels, responded today to Rex Ryan's recent comments. Keels' reply came in the form of an e-mail to the Daily News. Keels didn't rip the Jets, but he made his points. "Leon is a bit taken back about the reports of him taking a reduced role in 2010, especially since we are 4 months from the opening of camp," Keels wrote. "However, Leon is focused on rehab right now so that he can be the dynamic player in 2010 that he has always been.
